[25 Do not let your heart turn to her ways
or stray into her paths.
26 Many are the victims she has brought down;
her slain are a mighty throng.]
27 Her house is a highway to the grave,

Adultery may begin with gradual flirting over time or with sudden compulsion in a moment of weakness – out of passionate spite or meaningless boredom. It may be quite simple or exceedingly complicated, self justified or ridden with guilt. But no matter how unique one thinks himself to be; regardless of how he finds himself on this “highway;” the destination is assured. Does he know he is flirting with death itself? That whatever he gets will cost him dearly? Or in his folly does he imagine himself the exception to the rule, as if he could reach the east by walking west? He fancies himself unique, but he is just another fool among the multitude. He thinks he can overcome the consequences, instead he is overcome by them.
