[16 Wisdom will save you also from the adulterous woman,
from the wayward woman with her seductive words,]
19 None who go to her return
or attain the paths of life.
Wisdom is often considered to be an issue of the intellect, but it is just as much an issue of the heart. Sin appeals first to our desires, to which rationalizations are secondary. Beliefs may influence behavior, but this goes both ways, behavior also shapes our thinking and belief. This is especially true when it comes to sexual sin, which hijacks desire and takes the mind hostage. Once a man is ensnared, how can he return to the way he once was? A few seductive words, a little harmless flirtation, a “just this once” detour from the path of life, leads to a bondage from which few if any can fully escape.
