19 By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations,
by understanding he set the heavens in place;
20 by his knowledge the watery depths were divided,
and the clouds let drop the dew.
Wisdom is far more than a means of navigating through life, it is the agency by which the universe was established. To embrace wisdom is to align yourself with the Lord’s divine order, which goes beyond what we see and hear to what we think and feel. There is a desire in each of us to question this order, even to resist it, yet wisdom guides us to observe and learn from it.
There are many who preoccupy themselves with the question of how creation came to be, the simple answer is “by wisdom.” But the central question is what the divine order reveals to us; about God and about ourselves. And perhaps this is the more difficult of the two, as it concerns purpose over mere function. But in answering it we find our significance, and the paths we are called to follow.
