12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you;
if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.
There is no disadvantage to wisdom, no circumstance which wisdom cannot improve. The rewards of wisdom do not come to those who only have wisdom, but rather to those who are wise. It is through wisdom in action that competence is developed, relationships flourish, and difficulties are overcome. Though rewards may come in the form of recognition and honor, the inherent rewards of satisfaction and peace are reason enough to seek wisdom.
The reverse is true of mockery, improving nothing it benefits no one. While wisdom cultivates growth, mockery brings decay. Absorbed with criticism, the mocker cannot learn; doubtful of everything, the mocker does not grow. His cynicism leaves him unhappy and agitated, because he ridicules others he suffers alone.
