Proverbs 23:9

9 Do not speak to fools,

for they will scorn your prudent words.

Before using prudence to choose your words, use it to consider your audience. What do you have in common with them? How can you fit your message to their perspective? How are they likely to respond? Is your message important enough for you to endure scorn? Because if you are speaking to fools that is what you will get. Yet even in the midst of scorn there is a chance you might get through to someone, consider carefully how much trouble you’re willing to bear in order to find the lost sheep.
