Meditations on the Book of Proverbs

8 The one who gets wisdom loves life;

   the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper.

9 A false witness will not go unpunished,

   and whoever pours out lies will perish.

The direction your life is taking is more important than where you are now. The one who gets wisdom takes advantage of every opportunity, knowing that there are lessons in the bad as well as the good. Regardless of his circumstances, he is on a trajectory of improvement in all aspects of life, and learns to love life more and more as he grows. The one who rejects wisdom, however, is on the downward path; liking life less and less as he drifts into apathy and cynicism. Where are your choices taking you? It’s not too late to turn things around!

 “A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever pours out lies will perish.” Why do you lie? Is it to keep from being inconvenienced? To make yourself look better than you are? To bring down others? Whatever the reason, deception always costs more than it is worth. There is always more at stake than temptation leads us to believe, it is better to sacrifice a little for the truth than to sacrifice everything for a lie.
