Meditations on the Book of Proverbs

10 Choose my instruction instead of silver,

   knowledge rather than choice gold,

11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies,

and nothing you desire can compare with her.

Wisdom often brings wealth, but wealth does not bring wisdom. Silver and gold can be useful, but they can also be misused. They can be obtained, but they can also be lost. The Father knows that the central issue of life is not what you have on the outside, but who you are on the inside. Wisdom is the remedy to foolishness, but wealth is often its catalyst. What are you pursuing in life? If you are seeking wealth before wisdom, perhaps you should reconsider your priorities.

“For wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.” If only wisdom could be handed out like jewels! Instead it must be cultivated, without the proper environment and care it will wither away. Are you exposing yourself to the people and things which will make you wiser? Wisdom cannot be inherited, it does not come naturally with age, it is the most valuable thing in the world yet it is available to all who pursue it. Seek out wisdom, cherish it when you find it, it is always worth the cost.
