4 Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”
and to insight, “You are my relative.”
5 They will keep you from the strange woman,
from the wayward woman with her seductive words.
What is your relationship with wisdom? Do you see it as a tool to be used? As an ability to be developed? It may be these, but it is also a relationship to be cherished. Become familiar with wisdom, honor her, consider her as you would a sister. Let wisdom and insight be part of your family, stick with them through thick and thin, give them the dignity of speaking truth in your life. Abide with them, and they will protect you.
“They will keep you from the strange woman, from the wayward woman with her seductive words.” Your family wants what’s best for you, and wisdom and insight are no exception. Listen to them, and they will dispel the temptation of the strange woman. You may see only her beauty, but they will show your her trickery. You may be tempted to follow her, but they will shed light on her crooked paths.
Without wisdom and insight, what will keep you from seduction? When your feelings overwhelm you, when you are enticed by the promise of pleasure, who will help you see the trap? If you are estranged from wisdom in the moment of temptation, it is too late for her to free you. You may not always like what she says, but you know you need to hear it. Do not abandon her, let her be with you always, and she will strengthen you in times of weakness.
